We should treat AI the way a scientist treats advanced tools, as amplifiers of human reasoning, not substitutes for it. AI is exceptionally good at summarizing, pattern-matching, drafting, and exploring alternatives at incredible speed. What it cannot do is define intent, set direction, or take responsibility for judgment. Those still remain human obligations.
The discipline therefore is straightforward. Use AI to challenge your thinking, not complete it. Ask AI to surface counter arguments, edge cases, or historical parallels. Let it compress complexity. But form your own point of view before and after engaging with it. If AI becomes the first and final voice in the room, you are no longer leading, you are delegating cognition.
The organizations that win with AI will not be the ones that automate fastest, but the ones that think most clearly. AI should sharpen judgment, not dull it. Used well, it becomes a force multiplier for insight. Used lazily, it becomes a crutch. As leaders the choice, and the standard we set is entirely ours.
